This little number is a ballad, written from the perspective of an evil genius, whose hostage/sweetheart just does not understand the difficulties of being wicked.
Coulton’s song, which was originally used for a series of excellent lectures you should definitely examine further, really gets to the heart of being a heartless monster. “Even my henchman think I’m crazy!” he confesses, regarding his uncharacteristic adoration. It’s just so darned cute.
But in terms of a film: again, I could easily imagine a musical of Rocky Horror-esque gaudiness, with the villain really enjoying this number far, far too much. The lyrics, the composition, Coulton’s voice: it’s just so beautiful, for a song about false imprisonment. You’d be mad not to include this in your film. Simply mad.
